Born in Springhill, Nova Scotia in June of 1945 to Dr. Carson and Marion Murray, Anne was the only daughter amongst five sons. Sports and music were family pastimes so it was no surprise when Anne attended the University of New Brunswick and graduated in 1966 with a degree in Physical Education. After a year of teaching in PEI and a summer working with CBC's Halifax based Singalong Jubilee, Anne took a leap of faith. She left her secure job to join the television cast full time, a pivotal decision and one that would forever change her life.
In 1968 she headed to Toronto at the urging of producer Brian Ahern, recording her first album What About Me. One year later, she signed with Capitol Records Canada (a relationship she has enjoyed to this day) releasing This Way Is My Way. That album included "Snowbird" and in 1970 Anne Murray would become the first Canadian solo female artist to ever receive an American Gold award. Hits such as "Danny's Song," "You Needed Me," "Could I Have This Dance" and "Love Song" soon followed, solidifying Anne's place in music history.
Throughout her distinguished career, the four time Grammy award winner has effortlessly crossed genre lines from pop to country to adult contemporary. Anne is a Companion of the Order of Canada, the recipient of 31 Juno Awards, 3 American Music Awards and numerous country music awards. She has a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, one on Nashville's Walkway of Stars and another on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto.

The Centre houses memorabilia and awards from her distinguished career Murray's career enjoyed an unprecedented resurgence in 1999 with the release of What a Wonderful World. The album sustained a 70-week run on the charts and has been certified Platinum by the RIAA.
